Which
place comes up first in your mind when I say "fashion"? New York
(NY) is a very important element of a movie, The Devil Wears Prada. It
describes the best for the movie, especially the subject matter and
the characters.
NY,
a global power city, strongly supports the subject matter of the movie. As it
is the center of the fashion world, it shows the main topic of the
story thoroughly. Some might say Paris is also well known for trends. Yes,
but it does not match the features that this film wants to show. It needs a
busy city with tall buildings to effectively show the hectic and fast
systems and trends of Runway, the fashion magazine
company which appears as the representative. Therefore, the very place
that suits perfect for the movie is New York.
In
addition, characters are conveyed indirectly but
satisfactorily by appointing NY as the set. Miranda Priestly,
an authoritative fashion magazine editor, is one of the examples. She is
sharp, incisive and fastidious. These traits harmonize with the image of
the background. The soaring grey buildings with many people hurriedly
and briskly walking the street express the icy editor-in-chief of Runway
fashion magazine as the most appropriate leader. Moreover, as a second
example, you can see all the staffs following her as she issues
instructions. This structure seems similar to NY leading the fashion world.
Accordingly, there is a significant association between New York and the
characters.
As
a result, the only place that demonstrates The Devil wears Prada pertinently is
New York in that it clarifies and backs overall theme and characters based on
fashion. Though the second Great Depression comes to the U.S., fashion will
still remain, never die in New York.
When you travel, where do you reserve for
your accommodations? There are some people who use franchises which are
friendly to them. However, for the local, it is better to be used of the
locals. The possible effects of geotourism in Jeonju include local economy and
spread of Korean tradition.
One
possible effect of geotourism in Jeonju is the local economy. As they make the
places such as hotel, restaurants, and other infrastructures not in franchise,
local people can start their own business. This would lead to a big demand of
people. In addition, by the increment of its employment, the income of each
person would also increase and it would result in market growth as they will
consume more. Therefore, overall economic condition of the city would become
better.
Another possible effect of geotourism in the
city, famous for Korean tradition, is the influential spread of our tradition.
It is important for tourists to experience and learn the sites and cultures, as
it is the main purpose of their travel. If they stay in places that local
people operate and locally designed, they can communicate with them, ask where
the hidden but must-see places, and feel the culture better. From this chance,
culture and language are the minimum contents they can earn. By making tourist
keep special memories, general evaluation and satisfaction would be positive so
that Korean tradition would spread more extensively.
In
conclusion, the economy of the community, and expansion of our nation’s
tradition and culture are the productive and feasible outcome of geotourism in
Jeounju. Why don't you get used to accessing and trying the locals every time
you tour, instead of ones that you can go in your country as well?
Scientists and
detectives can obtain clues of mysteries from modern technology
such as DNA analysis and CT imaging. There are three examples: leech solving
robbery, plant solving murder, and killed iceman.
First, leech solved 2001 robbery
case in Australia. Detectives extracted some DNA from the blood in the leech
that could have attached itself to one of the robbers and sucked
his blood. Then, eight years later, police arrested a suspect on an
unrelated drug charge, and it turned out to be the one whose DNA is same
as the 2001 robbery's.
Second,
plant helped solve murder case in Arizona. As individual plants-in this murder
case palo verde trees- have unique patterns of DNA, analysis proved that
the truck, which is speculated to have hit the tree at the crime site, had
definitely been to the crime scene and had collided with palo verde.
Lastly,
the death of Europe's oldest mummy, now known as the Iceman, is deduced by
analyzing DNA, along with X-ray and CT imaging. CT imaging identified an
arrowhead buried in the Iceman's left shoulder, a wound on one of this hand,
and a full stomach at the time he was killed.
In
short, recent skills and technology provide impactful information and there are
several events that proved; leech solving robbery, plant solving murder, and
killed iceman. Can you imagine how much and far our IT would be upgraded further?
My name is Hyunmin Sung. I guess most of students in this class are majoring in English but I'm majoring in Economics. The reason I took this class is because I like learning other languages. From this writing class, I hope to improve my ability to describe my words in an effective way.
There are several things that I like to do and among them listening music and watching movie are the favorite. I always have my earphone in hands so that I can listen music anytime I want. My hobby is playnig a piano. It is because I am happy while playing the piano and listening to the sounds as I push the keyboard, and also it relieves stress.
During this semester, I have some plans and one of them is reading more than 5 books. As I started my first blog, I think writing reaction notes about those books would be a good idea. This willl help my writing and also by keeping the notes in the blog will remind me a few months or years later what I thought in that time while reading those books.
Nice to meet you and I hope having good times with you this semester.
